EDIT-2 - I have made a dirty-hack that will permanently disable the orange-mushroom-guy splash screen.
(the method with adding 1 line of text to a settings file doesn't work because it sometimes restores to some default settings...)
It is a lot more complicated than editing one file - but it works~

What happens:
Setting this up will run a script when you boot your device (when mysql service starts) - it will run a shell script which will delete the settings file and copy a 2nd settings file to replace it - so it will (hopefully) counteract the resetting to default that sometimes happens
-----
edit - this doesn't work - see above
Disable mushroom character splash screen on boot
Terminal
sudo thunar
Add to end of bool list on a new line
home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg
<bool name="SplashScreen" value="false" />

Hi everyone - just wanted to say I love the retrostone-2 so far <3 I have used Linux a lot, and hacked around with the nintendo-snes-classic
Is there a way to change the image which appears on boot (RetrOrangePi + orange mushroom character, and the orange-space-invador image?)
when I set a custom boot screen in RetroPie, it flashes for about 0.21 seconds 2 or 3 times, then the 2nd splash-screen/text/space-invador
I know people have asked this a lot online, but I found a whole heap of people giving instructions on how to update the 1st boot screen, which I then disabled, because it's only showing for a split-second
And I don't know - is this boot screen an armbian-os boot screen? or retropie? or another retrorangepi system? is it an image located somewhere in the root file system or a settings text file that can be remapped?

The space-invader is some printed text you can amend
/etc/update-motd.d/10-armbian-header

Just as a bonus - here are some new icons and other custom things I put together so far:
