Disable 2nd splash-screen - orange-mushroom / edit boot-space-invader [FIXED]
#1
EDIT-2 - I have made a dirty-hack that will permanently disable the orange-mushroom-guy splash screen.
(the method with adding 1 line of text to a settings file doesn't work because it sometimes restores to some default settings...)

It is a lot more complicated than editing one file - but it works~

Link to the info doc: https://pushka.com/rs2-info

What happens:
Setting this up will run a script when you boot your device (when mysql service starts) - it will run a shell script which will delete the settings file and copy a 2nd settings file to replace it - so it will (hopefully) counteract the resetting to default that sometimes happens

-----

edit - this doesn't work - see above

Disable mushroom character splash screen on boot
Terminal
sudo thunar
Add to end of bool list on a new line
home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg
<bool name="SplashScreen" value="false" />

Hi everyone - just wanted to say I love the retrostone-2 so far <3 I have used Linux a lot, and hacked around with the nintendo-snes-classic

Is there a way to change the image which appears on boot (RetrOrangePi + orange mushroom character, and the orange-space-invador image?)

when I set a custom boot screen in RetroPie, it flashes for about 0.21 seconds 2 or 3 times, then the 2nd splash-screen/text/space-invador

I know people have asked this a lot online, but I found a whole heap of people giving instructions on how to update the 1st boot screen, which I then disabled, because it's only showing for a split-second

And I don't know - is this boot screen an armbian-os boot screen? or retropie? or another retrorangepi system? is it an image located somewhere in the root file system or a settings text file that can be remapped?

The space-invader is some printed text you can amend

/etc/update-motd.d/10-armbian-header

Just as a bonus - here are some new icons and other custom things I put together so far:

Thanks for the bonus !

You said : "...which I then disabled, because it's only showing for a split-second..."
Please, tell me how I can disable it ?

And can we remove the sound jingle playing when booting the console ?
Thanks in advance

The opening Sega jingle stopped on its own for me. I have reloaded the OS several times. The jingle stopped every time after loading some games and after a few reboots.

@pushka
the RetrOrangePi space invader is an Armbian service , set in /etc/update-motd.d (we customized it)
the RetrOrangePi mushroom logo is compiled in EmulationStation sources IIRC

@Dubs
To disable the splashscreen service , run RetroPie-Setup, then Configuration, Splashscreen (service reads /opt/retropie/supplementary/splashscreen/asplashscreen.sh).
Anyway, it's not working as well as other boards, so we will recheck the scripts

EDIT - SOLVED - I'M SO HAPPY (the 2nd update works)

------

My suggestion would be to update master image to remove the mushroom character boot screen as default, since it's can set a custom secondary splash screen on the GUI - possibly add in the mushroom guy into the splash option list (warning, image may be a different size)
Splash can be disabled like this:
Add <bool name="SplashScreen" value="false" /> to home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg
BUT - when I tried to add it, sometimes the system would reset that settings file to default, so I made some scripts to delete/ re-copy that file every time it boots

-----

Thanks again for all the work - love it so far <3

I have a couple of related questions...! (if you don't mind please :-) )

When you get to the "RetrOrangePi 4.3" screen, which has the Space Invader...
Q1: what's the Linux utility called that shows you all the system information, e.g. the System Load, Memory Usage, CPU temp, IP address, Usage of /, Up Time, Battery %...
I would love to know what application makes that appear, because all of that configured information appears as well when you log in over ssh...?

Q2: that little bit of audio that says SEGA on boot... I think that's in the Jan 20 image but not the Jan 23 image, is that right? Could we get it back in future images please? It was a really nice touch!

Anyway, wish you a good weekend. Thanks again.

Hi everyone - if you unsafe shut down / sometimes - it resets the settings file to default, so the splash screen comes back... I don't know how to permanently disable it...

EDIT - I made a system to replace that file every time the system boots - see 1st post

UPDATE - I have edited my .sh file so that it doesn't delete & backup the settings file - it searches the file to see if the splash screen tag is there - if not, add it to the end of the file:
https://pushka.com/rs2-info - instructions

#!/bin/bash
if grep -Fxq "<bool name=\"SplashScreen\" value=\"false\" />" /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg
then
# code if found
true
else
#add the line
#"<bool name=\"SplashScreen\" value=\"false\" />"
echo "<bool name=\"SplashScreen\" value=\"false\" />" >> /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg
