New RS2: 2 LEDs on but black screen.

Hi folks,
My unit arrived today and I wanted to do an initial check to see if it worked, even without RPI installed, expecting a 'no OS detected' error. I got a black screen and thought "Fair enough, it might just need to charge for a while, and I'll prepare the SD card while I'm waiting."
With the SD card now formatted and installed using Rufus I inserted it into the machine and pressed the power button. 
Note, the Power LED has been on since I first pressed it several hours ago and doesn't seem to respond to further presses.

I'm really new to all this and am not quite sure what constitutes 'normal' for this period.

1) Is the Power LED meant to remain on, no matter what I do?
2) Is the unit supposed to show me some kind of non-black screen at this point?

1) You have to hold it for five seconds to power off in case you have black screen
2) You should see activity onscreen within the first two minutes after powered on
